Alberta is facing a shortage of skilled trades people, and in response, the Black Gold School Division continues to focus on connecting our high school students with opportunities in the skilled trades.

The Division is pleased to present a Trades and Career Fair opportunity for high school students at École Secondaire Beaumont Composite High School (5417 43 Ave, Beaumont) from 1pm – 7 pm on November 29, 2023. See poster below for details.

Interested students  from  École Sécondaire Beaumont Composite High School, Calmar Secondary School, New Sarepta Community High School, and John Maland High School will have the opportunity to  attend during the day. Parents and their children from across all Black Gold schools are encouraged to attend from 3:30 p.m. – 7 p.m.

There will be a variety of booths from a wide range of trades at the fair: from boiler makers, Women Building Futures, construction and manufacturing, aesthetics, millwrights, apprenticeships, Green Certificate, fire rescue, heating and cooling, energy, and more!

“This opportunity is primarily for students in grades 11 and 12 who are looking to get into the skilled trades,” said Division Principal Ray Cable. “There is a significant opportunity in Alberta at this time to enter this sector, and we want our students to have the opportunity to see what’s out there, start taking a look at what might be of interest to them, and find out what steps they need to take in pursuit of a meaningful career.”

“We are already doing a lot of work in schools through the work experience and registered apprenticeship programs to support that career awareness, as well as myBlueprint, which provides students with great opportunities to not only look at the trades, but other career choices as well,” said Cable.

myBlueprint Education Planner is an education and career/life planning program with the tools students need to make the most informed decisions about their future. It focuses on preparing junior high school students for high school, and junior and senior high school students for life after Black Gold.
